What Even Is A Vegan Shoe?

What Even Is A Vegan Shoe?

This is something we get asked a lot.

"What are they made from?"

"Are they durable?"

"Can you eat them?" (Sometimes asked jokingly, sometimes not 😄).

So we wanted to share a bit about our shoes with you.

(Oh and you probably wouldn't want to eat them).

What is a vegan shoe?

So a vegan shoe is one that's made without any animal derived components, which includes the upper, insoles, outsoles, glues, dyes, reinforcement parts and more.

Sometimes shoes that seem like they're synthetic or non-leather aren't actually vegan, as they can contain animal materials that aren't disclosed.

For instance, we recently came across shoes claiming to be vegan, which actually had leather blended into their otherwise synthetic soles. (Not OK!)

A vegan shoe is made without any animal derived components, which includes the upper, insoles, outsoles, glues, dyes, reinforcement parts and more.

So what are they made from?

Not all vegan shoes are equal. We reckon though that vegan fashion should be kind to people and the planet, as well as animals.

So we bring you a curated collection of products made from high-quality, environmentally responsible, animal-friendly materials, which are made under fair and safe working conditions.

Our materials include European-made PU microfibres (often OEKO-TEX and Ecolabel certified), Piñatex (pineapple leaf leather), apple leather, plant-based bio-polyoils linings, cork, cotton canvas, recycled textiles and more.

These materials are breathable, comfortable and durable. Learn more here.
